Lesson Overview

With the release of the new movie, the Star Wars franchise has reached new heights of popularity. On the playground, boys and girls alike pretend to be good and noble Jedi knights and play act the battle against the evil forces of the Dark Side. The fascination surrounding Star Wars has created the perfect opportunity to teach some essential Christian truths with Star Wars as a starting point.

At its core, the Star Wars story is an homage to archetypal mythological figures that mixes aspects of various Christian and non-Christian religious traditions to create a unique space  epic about the battle between good and evil. This month’s Teaching the Faith with Current Events eLesson will use Star Wars to explore the Church’s teaching about good and evil and  analyze the process of moral decision-making. Included are resources and discussion questions to better understand Church teaching regarding these issues.
