The students will look at the parallels between Our Lord and Odysseus, as found in the Scriptures (Old and New) and the final books of the Odysssey. They will think about the many similarites of their situations and treatment -- both are long awaited kings, both return in disguise, both receive unjust treatment, even for an ordinary person, let alone a king, both are recognized by their wounds. The students will find the parallels with assistance, and will deepen their appreciation for the ancient Greek hero and Our Lord. They will also be led to consider the difference in how each king responds to his treatment -- Odysseus with furious retribution (with a lot of justice in it); Christ with profound forgiveness and merciful love.
