Life Decisions using Biology

Lesson Overview

The idea behind this unit is to tie together what the students learn about reproduction and genetics in Biology with current trends in artificial reproductive technologies (ART's) in our country, and knowledge of the Catholic Church's teachings on life and life issues.  In this unit, students use primary resources, learn facts, apply knowledge, work both individually and in groups, write a paper, and use their creative powers to make a film that is a drama or documentary on a case study of their own choosing.  It is a very popular and effective unit in my classroom, and one that will really get your students to think about their own lives and futures, at a time where they are not yet too emotionally invested in these difficult situations to make an informed decision in good conscience.
